Reporting to Design Manager, this role is a unique opportunity for an ambitious Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to make a difference, whilst designing innovative and scientific instrumentation for research in the water, air and on land in the Arctic and Antarctica.

Mechanical Design Engineer Duties:

  • Specification, design and procurement of new instrumentation.
  • Development of new systems and equipment to meet customer requirements.
  • Initiation and monitoring of in-house projects to ensure design standards are achieved.
  • Ensuring installations on BAS ships, aircraft and Antarctic Stations are completed to specification and on schedule.
  • Supporting systems in the field including provision of all necessary spares and maintenance.

Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements:

  • HNC/D or BEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • 3D CAD – Inventor, SolidWorks (or similar)
  • Component design, complex assemblies
  • Technical drawings, BOMs, documentation
